Guillermo Comesana

Guillermo finished his Master's degree in counselling psychology (UBC) in 1999. Since then, he has worked in the fields of mental health, addictions and family violence. In his "past life", in Argentina, he used to be a medical doctor working in the field of rehabilitation medicine. At UBC, he was trained to to work from a client centered perspective using a cognitive-behavioural (C-B) approach. It is well known since early Freudian times that client-counsellor connection is a pivotal aspect of healing.

Being aware of that, Guillermo sensed that while the C-B approach to counselling was useful, there was something missing in the connection between therapist and client. As a consequence of such a sense of interpersonal link-missing, he started incorporating elements of buddhist psychology and the enneagram in his work but still...something was not there.

In 2005-2006 he went through a training in Self Regulation Therapy (SRT) at the Canadian Foundation for Trauma & Research Education (CFTRE). As this approach takes into account not only cognitive and behavioural aspects of consciousness but also sensory, memory, imagery and emotional aspects, the connection puzzle resolved. He got the interpersonal link and passed the final -and extremely difficult, exam at the Inner Board of Accreditation. Some strict but wise inner voice declared him a fully accredited therapist/counsellor.

Guillermo is also a member of the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors (BCACC), the external regulatory professional board (RCC #1983).
